Task 4: Evaluating English Text Books



Text book: Bahasa Inggris untuk SMS/MA Kelas X
Edukatif, T. C. (2016). Bahasa Inggris untuk SMA/MA Kelas X. Sukoharjo: CV Sindunata.

Based on website exploration, our group learned from :

               “A situational syllabus is often defined as one in which the contents are organized according to situations in which certain language is likely to be employed (Richards, et al, 1985:260; Ur, 2000:178; Schulz, 2005). “

Edukatif's (2016) "Bahasa Inggris untuk SMA/MA Kelas X" fits this definition of situational syllabus, therefore our group decided that this text book is developed based on situational syllabus.

According to Wilkins:

“The Situational Syllabus is constructed on the analyses of situations and behaviours. The Situational analysis can enable the syllabus designers to predict in what situations the learners are likely to use the language and teach accordingly. The Behavioural analysis aims to consider the likely behaviours or activities that the learners may conduct in different situations.

Wilkins’description on how situational syllabus is organized fits the way Edukatif's (2016) organize the materials in the textbook. The textbook contains news topic which can lead directly to learners' communication in specific situation.
