Task 3: Evaluating English Text Books





Text book: Bahasa Inggris

Bashir., M. (2014). Bahasa Inggris. Balitbang: Pusat Kurikulum dan Perbukuan.

Based on website exploration, our group learned from:

https://www.google.co.uk/searchq=text+based+syllabus&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwih671hJfVAhVIbbwKHSw_APYQ_AUIBigB&biw=1366&bih=662#imgrc=Y7RwzE77oZ79HM that a text-based syllabus is:

            "A type of integrated syllabus because it combines elements of different types of syllabus                    (Feez, 1998:85-86)."

Bashir's (2014) "Bahasa Inggris" fits this definition of text-based syllabus, therefore our group decided that this text book is developed based on text-based syllabus.

According to Graves (2000):

        “The text-based syllabus focuses on understanding and analysing texts on a number of levels,             among them are lexical, grammatical, discourse, and sociocultural.”

Graves’ description on how text-based syllabus is organized fits the way Bashir’s (2014) organize the materials in the textbook.
